Hey guys, Tyler here. On May 1st, I will travel to Japan and explore the country until the 27th. I am going with 6 other friends who are ready for a culture shock. This will be the longest period of time I’ve ever been away from my family, but at the same time, I will be with my friends. We might begin to hate each other after being stuck together for a month. Will it? I don’t know. I’m bringing an Osprey Farpoint 40L bag as my luggage but I’m also bringing an Osprey Ultralight Stuff pack to use as a daypack.
This trip is a grand surprise for me, as I don’t even know what the hell I’m going to do. I’m going in with an open mind, and I have no idea what to expect. I chose Japan as a country because I had wanted to travel to another country, but I wasn’t ready to go on a trip by myself. Plus, my friend Ivan went last year and invited me to go with him this year.
The story about my boy Ivan going to Japan is pretty damm funny. He’s been obsessed with the culture for the whole time that I’ve known him. We actually met in Japanese class. (I’m not a weeb I swear!) Last year he met a Japanese girl on Tinder. I don’t want to go into detail, but let’s just say they had some fun. They planned to meet in Japan a few months later. Some stuff came up and they didn’t end up seeing each other. Ivan had a great time nonetheless. Now we’re all going with him. Thank you Tinder for getting my boy to Japan lol.
My friends have made some sort of itinerary, but its not concrete. If any of us want to do our own thing, we’ll venture away from the group. For example, all of my friends are excited about the Tinder scene in Japan. They have something they refer to as “yellow fever”. I’m much more interested in visiting historical sites and just roaming around the cities we’re staying at in general.
We arrive in Tokyo on the 2nd of May and we’re staying there until the 9th when we leave to Kyoto. We’ll leave to Osaka on the 13th and head back to Tokyo on the 19th. I will then fly back to Miami on the 27th. I’m going to do a few day trips while in Japan, possibly to Hiroshima, Himeji, and Hakone(My boy tells me these sulfur eggs are fire). I’m definitely not forgetting about going to see Mt. Fuji. I know I’m not staying in these places long enough, but I don’t plan on this being my only visit.
This trip is just the beginning of my travels. I see this trip as a way of becoming more independent. I’ve never had to pay for a place to stay or especially haven’t had to cover all of my expenses on a trip. This will force me to budget to an extent. I have $3,000 saved up. It doesn’t really sound like budgeting lol. I don’t plan on spending all of it though.
As I explore the country, I will be editing my website and finally launching it. I will be writing more about my experience, so stay tuned for more blog posts.
P.S.: Just to let you know, this blog will be posted after May 1st. I’m still finishing up making my website.
